Brookside
Retirement Community offers specialty care through a sister facility
called Lakefront specialty care assisted living. Lakefront is an assisted living facility that is
licensed by the state of Alabama to allow us to care for those
residents that have Alzheimer's or some other type of Dementia.
A specialty care facility must meet higher standards of care
than regular assisted living facilities.
In
order for the state to allow us to care for your loved one that has
a cognitive impairment, we are required to have more staffing and
licensed nurses to administer and document all medications for those
residents that need help with their medications.
We also have an RN consultant to assess all admissions as
well as monitor all residents’ mental and physical status in a
continual manner. We
are required to have a medical director monitoring the residents for
changes in their abilities, which helps with establishing our
ability to safely care for your loved one.
The state requires a number of physical plant improvements
that insures our residents’ safety.
There are parameters of cognitive and physical abilities that
we must adhere to, our monthly and annual mental and physical assessments help us to
ascertain your loved one’s ability to reside in an assisted living
facility safely. While
the requirements of the newly adopted regulations by the State of
Alabama do increase the cost of dementia care, Lakefront is no more
costly than many of the regular Assisted Living facilities that
cannot care for the cognitively impaired. Lakefront Specialty Care
facility has a “wander guard” resident security system that
helps insure that our residents live in a home safe from an
elopement risk. Lakefront
Specialty Care facility is a small group home limiting our census to
no more than 16 residents. The
home is placed in a country-like neighborhood setting, overlooking a
stocked lake. We are
